Click the Manage Styles button in the bottom left corner. If you want to make other changes in the defaults, press Alt+Ctrl+Shift to open the Styles pane.The Line and Paragraph Spacing button in the Paragraph group and choose Line Spacing Options. Other ways: Click the dialog launcher (the tiny arrow in the bottom right corner) in the Paragraph group on the Home tab. Seeing this result, then something is preventing Normal from being saved, and that is another problem. I want to set the default for line spacing at 'no spacing' which, in fact, is single space, but I am not able to do this. If you have already made this setting the default for all new documents and are not The line spacing in the 'Normal' default says 'single' but it actually appears as double spacing when typing. There are a number of ways to attack this problem, all of which require you to click "Set as Default" somewhere and depend on Word's being able to save the Normal template. If you're seeing "double" spacing, then the problem is probably not with the (Single) line spacing but with the Spacing Before/After, both of which need to be set to zero.
